A HISSY FIT

Many of the social do good types, the politicians, and the media to name a few, are in an uproar about the people who enter this nation illegally being called illegal aliens. And Meredith Oakley can be numbered among those having hissy behavior. She thinks it is plumb pitiful that some of us have the audacity to call an illegal alien a law violator or even worse, a criminal. She doesn’t want such terms used in the Voices column no less.  My suggestion is that Meredith do some research on the meaning of the words she deplores instead of trying to make those of us feel guilty and who believe in following the law.

A very good article in World Net Daily (March 13, 2005, Click HERE for link) addresses the issue of medical care for illegal aliens. The system is being drained because it can’t keep up with the demand for services for those who shouldn’t be here in the first place. The drain isn’t solely for the demands more immediate in nature, but also includes the demands which are growing due to the diseases that they bring with them. As the article points out the people who immigrate here legally must be free of disease, but the illegals are free to spread their germs to everyone and those who are responsible for stemming the tide of the invasion are loath to do so for political reasons.

Our founders were wise men and their words show the wisdom they possessed which is and still are much greater than that of Oakley, the politicians, and social feel good types. The men of old recognized the need for laws which limited government and which relied on the morality of the people to keep society safe from those who would prey on their neighbors to gain advantage to the detriment of the many. Yet Oakley and her pals don’t seem to understand that simple concept.

An argument made by the governor, the President, and others is that they are only trying to better themselves. To hear them talk about the illegals it seems that they see their motives as pure as wind driven snow. That may well be true in some cases, but if they want to better themselves why do they not apply for legal entry and become part of our society and enjoy the liberty that all legal citizens of this nation enjoy on a daily basis. The truth is that many can’t apply for legal entry because they are criminals; so they sneak across the border and hide amongst us spreading their pestilence all over the land. And those who could apply for legal entry find it far easier to flout the law since no one has the will to send them and the criminals home.

Oakley makes one more asinine argument. She says the Constitution speaks of rights to a person or persons and therefore our laws apply to the illegals. Here she stretches her presumed knowledge of the Constitution past reason. The founders spoke of “we the people” who were forming the more perfect union and who, not co-incidentally, were here legally in the soon to be new nation. The word people is used for the whole of the legal people and the words person or persons are used to identify [legal] individuals to which the Constitution applies, who are part of the people of the whole nation. Nowhere does it state or even imply that people not here legally are part of “we the people” or that they should be given any consideration other than to be deported. It stands to reason that since the Constitution and applicable federal law specifies who can and can’t enter this nation, then those who can’t enter or don’t enter legally and do enter, are illegal aliens and rightfully can be called criminals and aren’t a part of we the people.

The fits being directed at those who want to solve the problem of the illegal aliens according to our laws are because emotion has overridden the law and common sense. The Constitution and the laws made pursuant thereto were made for a purpose and now that those laws aren’t being enforced we have all kinds of troubles developing.

The feel good and feel sorry types, Oakley included, refuse to see that violating the standards are ruining our nation. But “we the people” for whom the Constitution applies will continue to challenge their illogical reasoning every step of the way to ruin. Throw your hissy fits Meredith. I understand your behavior and you receive no sympathy from me for your misguided notions.
