Two-hundred thirty two years ago a group of men, dedicated to freeing
themselves and their fellow citizens from dictatorial rule, began a
fierce war with England. The result was a new nation known as the United
States. It is a group of political divisions that have the common goal
of freedom from a centralized government and the liberty to conduct
affairs as the residents of each respective state see fit, governed
through a representative government known as a republic, controlled by a
Constitution that sets the limits on the federal government. When
Benjamin Franklin was asked about what kind of a government had been
given, he answered, “A republic if you can keep it.” Dear readers, we
aren’t keeping it.

The Pledge of Allegiance has the line, one nation under God with liberty
and justice for all. Defining the word nation as a reference to the
people, it is a group of citizens who recognize the sovereignty of God,
the one who has given us rules for morals, ethics and individual
behavior. The founders bequeathed to all of us the inheritance stated in
the Declaration of Independence, which is the blessings of Life, Liberty
and the Pursuit of Happiness, all of which come from God. The Pursuit of
Happiness is a blessing when one lives according to the principles
of our creator. Freedom, liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness aren't
possible when the government enters our lives except as allowed by the
Constitution.

The new nation has had its period of turmoil. Another war with England
when the Crown tried to conquer the people to reclaim what the king
thought was his. There was a civil war that left carnage across the
land, and in some ways, that carnage continues in the minds of some
people to this day. There was a depression, and then a war in which we
fought two nations at once. Other conflicts and a few recessions have
tried the patience of the citizens. But the most unique quality
throughout all the turmoil was a resolve that with unity of purpose we
would prevail. And we did prevail, but that was then and now the scene
has changed.

Morality based on God is the foundation of any nation, but the
foundation is eroding. Jesus said,
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I
will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and
beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not,
shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the
sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds
blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of
it. (Matthew 7:24-27) Our nation was built on the
principles of God, the rock for our moral unity, but now disparate
forces are clamoring for individual treatment. Homosexuals want rights
that are an antithesis to God’s moral laws. They assault our ears and
eyes daily with their immoral demands and behavior. Weak willed
politicians looking for votes pander to their illicit demands. Illegal
aliens demand the same rights that legitimate citizens enjoy, and again
weak willed politicians eager to please, and thus who will receive their
votes, sell us out, forcing us to pay for all kinds of benefits for the
illegal residents. Other groups from environmentalists to the global
warming wackos demand that we acquiesce to them and their demands for
special treatment, all at our expense and the increasing loss of
liberty.

Many of our leaders have chosen to take the side of those who are
against us, we who want to return to the limited government that our
founders gave to us. Instead of the politicians being our employees and
answerable to us, we are now the slaves answerable to the political
masters which is similar to England’s treatment of the colonies. We who
desire to have limited constitutional government are branded as
dangerous right-wing nuts, out of touch Bible bangers and fools, to name
a few of the words used against us. But take heart, the founders were
thought of by the Crown to be the same type people.

When at one time we were a nation of people united with a common belief
for the common cause of liberty, God has been shoved aside, the
Constitution ignored, and individual responsibility has become an
antiquated idea of the past. The noble experiment of self government
using God as the foundation for national and individual righteous
behavior in our republic is disappearing rapidly.

July 4th, 2008, is the day that everyone who loves this
country must unite and demand that our leaders begin the work to return
to the republic bequeathed to us. If we don’t, we will continue on the
road of division whose end is ruin. Jesus said,
Every kingdom divided against itself is brought
to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not
stand: (Matthew 12:25) In Sorting It Out, we are very
close to not standing due to being a nation divided.
