A NEW GOD

Desiring to be able to worship God freely, the founders of the United States created a nation that enables those who so desire to be able to honor God without government interference as in the case with England dictating how to worship. Even if an individual chose not to honor God, the system of government allowed that individual to enjoy freedom from government and the consequent liberty to enjoy life. No religious demands were made on anyone except to be a good citizen and follow the laws of the land. Believers were free to speak of their belief both publicly and privately, exercising their right of free speech protected by the Constitution.

Religion, as it is called in the Constitution, is a reference to God in spite of what the God deniers say. Religion and belief in God were synonymous in the minds of the founders and the early settlers. The word religion wasn’t used in reference to any other system of belief, even though it also could and did mean a denomination. God and Jesus were the pre-eminent focus of worship in the early days of the nation and the people took seriously the words Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:3; Deuteronomy 5:7)

But over the years, the nation’s belief in God has changed. Beginning in 1932 with the election of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a new line of thought concerning the ideas for government marched out of FDR’s mind. Slowly it took hold in the thinking of the people nationwide. Those who knew better resisted, but soon they were overcome by the New Deal sweeping across the land. Over the years, the New Deal slowly installed itself as the new god of the nation, and has continued in various forms into the year 2008. The government, better known as the state, has become the god which now bestows blessings on the people; of course, at the expense of other people (the rich) who are the despised ones targeted by the all knowing politicians.

A shift from freedom from government and true liberty has taken place.  Government intrudes into nearly every aspect of life and limits liberty to live as a free people. Congress has passed laws that control everything from land use to the type of light bulbs that are permissible. There are very few items in life that government hasn’t touched, and if a citizen fails to observe one the laws, depending on the violation, arrest, fines and jail are the standard remedies.

The new god, government, must be appeased at all cost, no matter what, since it is for the good of society.  Earn more than the god believes to be necessary and it will take, with force if necessary, the excess that is deemed to be wrong. Disturb one of the icons of the new god, wet lands for example, and incur the wrath of the EPA guardians of the environment. Accidentally or other wise harm a lesser animal, loss of land, huge fines and possible jail time can result. Sometimes it is all three. The new mantra of animal rights now supplants the rights for people listed in the Constitution. Remember, it says that those things not listed are the rights of the people also.

More and more people are looking to government to solve their personal problems. The problem with that approach to life is that when some problems are solved, it is always at the expense of those who don’t have those problems. But, in the world of the government’s mandated religion, the god of state control, the fact that the laws mistreat some is of no consequence.

As a result of all the government help, a nation of independent people who looked to God for daily help, are becoming slaves to the new god of government headed by the new leader of the movement, the nut job (a.k.a. Barack Hussein Obama). It is a tyrannical god that metes out punishment for not recognizing its (or his) omnipotent power. In Sorting It Out, there is hope. The true God of the universe will one day heap vengeance upon those who think they are God.  Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. (Romans 12:19)
