A Virtuous, Moral Man |
|
I always thought myself to be a virtuous, moral man, Some things I always stood for, for certain things I’d stand. For the country and the flag, for freedom I have fought, And never once was in doubt about how I felt, believed, or thought. I was always first to sing the anthem or say the pledge, I knew that as an American I always had the edge. In politics and war and peace with one opinion over all, That the USA was always right, I had no doubt of it at all. Through all the good times and the bad I always held on fast, To worldly virtues and moral codes that were not built to last. They didn’t last because they would change with every generation, Because they weren’t built on Jesus Christ, so perfect his foundation. As I got older things I believed began to crumble and fall, As I looked deeper into my life I found no base at all. My life was built on moral codes of loose and shifting sand, You cannot stake your life on them because they’ll never stand. Holding on to worldly virtues won’t last you very long, ‘Cause you will finally realize they’re worthless and they’re wrong. That’s when like me you will learn real fast, oh so very quick, These worldly virtues and moral codes just won’t do the trick. These things of man are just ideas, oh so ill conceived, You cannot build a real good base because you’ve been deceived. The ideas of man are only as good as the base on which they’re built, Foundations in this world are made with layers of sin and guilt. Worldly virtues and moral codes have no base for you, The foundations are weak because of sin without that love so true. On the love of God through Jesus Christ you can forever stand, Not the things of man built on this earth like a virtuous moral man. Copyright 2004 JEC |
