A letter to Voices, November 1, 2007, used an apples and oranges
comparison which resulted in convoluted reasoning. The writer thinks it
is hypocrisy to defend the unborn against abortion while supporting the
war in Iraq which is killing the innocent. He thinks that when the
sanctity of unborn life is protected that those who do should condemn
the killing the innocents in Iraq.
|
|
One hundred percent of the unborn are innocent of any wrong and that
must not be forgotten. How innocent civilians in Iraq may be is a matter
open for discussion, but it can be confidently stated that the number
isn’t one hundred percent. It also must be recognized that abortion is
aimed at one hundred percent of those being aborted, while the methods
used in war aren’t targeting one hundred percent of the innocents there.
|
|
It is a fact of life that innocents are killed in war and that is
regrettable. Innocent people were killed in the Twin Towers by an
aggressor that intends on killing everyone they despise, including their
own kind. They were no more guilty of anything than are those innocents
in Iraq, but there is a difference. Those in the Twin Towers weren’t
aggressors of any kind. Yet, regrettably action had to be taken (Saddam
was supporting the terrorist thugs) and the innocents in Iraq have born
part of the burden of being in the wrong place at the wrong time when
the military conducts their war exercises.
|
|
Not one human in this nation had or has anything against the innocent
people of Iraq. Their leaders and the thugs there have brought death to
them. So to call the pro-life people hypocrites, while implying they
care not for the people of Iraq, is the worst form of smear. In fact,
being against abortion has nothing to do with the war. One act is
against the defenseless while the other act is necessary to defend the
defenseless. Has he forgotten the innocents of September 11, 2001?
|
|
The first act kills all the defenseless on purpose while the second act
kills the innocents who would rather live. The writer doesn’t agree with
collateral damage, but that the price of war. It is a fact of life as is
a baby not yet born. But comparing support for the unborn with the
support of the war in Iraq is comparing apples and oranges. One isn’t
like the other. The unborn pose no danger to anyone while the thugs most
certainly do and have demonstrated that fact many times over.
