AS YOU DIVE INTO THE SEA

If I were an Octopus
You know what I would do?
Why I'd wrap my eight arms
Gently all around you!

My eyes are keen -
I see you dive real near,
If you care to talk to me
You know I cannot hear.

I am one of 150,000 eggs
My mother one day had,
She never eats during incubation;
To see her made me glad.

If you don't see me -
Watch for my front door,
It's made of crab shells
Placed on the ocean floor.

I have many suckers
To hang on to things I like,
Those getting too close
Soon learn to take a hike!

My brain is like a human
I can get into things so icky,
Like opening a lid on honey
But end up pretty sticky!

If you swim close by me
I will reach out my arm,
I promise:  I won't
Do you any harm.

Changing colors is fun -
It keeps one's challenge high,
At times you can't see me -
I squirt ink:  I'm really shy!

My distant relatives are
Something to behold,
They get big as thirty feet -
This is what I'm told.

I am a special Octopus
As you can plainly see,
I wait to always tease you
AS YOU DIVE INTO THE SEA.
