In the world today there are churches with all kinds of names, all of
which claim to be following God. They have various teachings which set
them apart from the others and which creates division among those who
say they are believers. The divisions began early in the life of the
church and continue to plague the gospel of Christ. Many groups claim to
follow the scriptures but don’t. And it is quite apparent when they have
strayed away from the mission of the church.

Several denominations have strayed from any semblance of the church
found in the scriptures and have embarked on activities that are a far
cry from what Jesus and the apostles preached. A very prominent
denomination (American Episcopal Church) is embroiled in a discussion
about homosexuals being members of their communion. Others around the
world are arguing about allowing homosexual bishops and other church
officials to be allowed to practice their perversion. Many are allowing
homosexual marriage. None [the behaviors] is taught in scripture and yet
those adherents claim to be following the Bible.

Now for the contrast in churches so evident today. An article in The
Arkansas Democrat Gazette, June 22, 2006, relates the work of several
churches of Christ in Arkansas and co-operating churches in other
states. They have gone together to aid the people in Tajikistan in
Central Asia. They are gathering needed materials of all kinds and
sending them to an impoverished people. Paul wrote: [Galatians
6:10] As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men,
especially unto them who are of the household of faith. Are the
people in need Christians? Perhaps some are, but Paul makes it clear that
all men (humans) are to be helped. All in the verse is plural and means
the whole of mankind or (everyone needing help).

Paul took up donations for the needy while on his missionary journeys: [1
Corinthians 16:2] Upon the first day of the week let every one of you
lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no
gatherings when I come. The collection of supplies was for the
Christians in Jerusalem. [1 Cor
16:3] And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them
will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem . Here is an
example of one church helping the people in another place as the
churches of Christ are doing in Arkansas.

Jesus taught giving for the needs of others in his parables. He fed
thousands of people with loaves and fishes. His teachings of doing unto
others carried over into the church which began on the Day of Pentecost.
Paul told Timothy: [1 Tim 6:17] Charge them that are rich in this
world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but
in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; [1 Tim
6:18] That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to
distribute, willing to communicate; [1 Tim 6:19] Laying up in store for
themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay
hold on eternal life.

|
Titus wrote: [Titus 3:8] This is a faithful saying, and these
things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed
in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good
and profitable unto men. Good works are profitable. They do good
things for others. They bring people to obey Christ when they see God’s
love flowing to them from Christians. Titus also wrote: Titus
3:14] And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses,
that they be not unfruitful. Good works are useful and will bear
fruit for God, those who will obey the gospel.

|
The contrast among churches is evident as to who is following the word
of God. While some groups are arguing about allowing the perverted and
unrepentant to be included in membership of their groups [2 Tim
2:16] But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto
more ungodliness.), a group of believers known as Christians
only, members of the churches of Christ found in the scriptures are
doing good deeds unto all men. They preach the gospel so the lost will
know the truth.

Jesus said: [Matthew 7:17]
Even so every good tree bringeth forth
good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
[Mat 7:18] A
good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree
bring forth good fruit. [Mat 7:19] Every tree that bringeth not forth
good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
[Mat 7:20] Wherefore by
their fruits ye shall know them.

|
The contrast in the type of fruits each group is producing is glaringly
apparent.
