The destruction of a nation, unless by the naked aggression of force, is
no less deadly when it is by stealth and when such stealth makes unseen
destructive inroads into the fabric of society to such an extent that
its presence not only goes unnoticed, it soon becomes normal when
finally noticed. The unnoticed stealth of the destructive force is
policy. To state it more exactly, it is government policy which is
leading this nation down the path to oblivion.

Let’s begin with a few facts of history. Up to the time of FDR, the
government (politicians) mostly kept its nose out of the ordinary
affairs of the day and business. Congress passed legislation that was
aimed primarily at defense, general economic laws, and law enforcement.
There weren’t any government policies to control certain aspects of
life, personally, publicly or business wise. That changed when FDR began
to institute a form of national policy with farm subsidies which have
evolved into a program that continues due to a government policy that
has subsidized farms for 70 years. And what has that policy done? It has
destroyed the small farms it was supposed to help and has ensured that
the subsidy payments go to the mega farms rose as the small farmers
disappeared. The government’s (politicians) policy is now to continue
the farm subsidy program.

At one time those in the oil business were allowed to pursue their
business of finding and producing petroleum for the public. There wasn’t
an energy policy as such except that those in the oil business could run
their business. As the years have gone by, government began to insinuate
itself into the oil business due to pressure from environmental groups.
The government began to pass legislation that would appease the various
groups and from that legislation, a national energy policy has risen.

For one, the policy is that we are to decrease our dependence on foreign
oil and yet the government policy has caused it because of limiting
domestic production, and in some cases, there has been a complete
cessation of domestic production since it will ruin the life style of
bears, bugs, worms, flies etc. Yet, research and facts show that
drilling and production has a very limited effect on the environment.
The policy has grown into an absurdity since senators from some of the
coastal states are vehemently resisting the allowance of drilling off
their respective coasts because it might ruin their states’ tourist and
vacation industries. No matter that there are billions of barrels of
crude and voluminous amounts of natural gas available which will help
reduce the need for foreign oil, fun and games for those people is much
more important. Selfish agendas are now government policy and such a
policy and such reasons are nothing short of idiocy.
|
|
Policy has become a national mantra with everything being run from the
halls of Congress and the White House. The idea that a bunch of people
in Washington and in bureaucracies scattered across the land have the
expertise to operate the many faceted parts of any business is nothing
short of lunacy. But it is worse than that: government policy for
anything except as permitted for the government to do by the
Constitution is a step into the nationalization of all parts of our
existence. How can anyone think that a select few can know more about
what is good for an individual and the nation than do those who operate
the wheels of business daily, meeting the needs of the citizens?
|
|
The best and only policy is for government to get its collective nose
out of our private business, public business, and religious business as
was practiced when the nation was first founded. In Sorting It Out that
is the only way we can overcome the destructiveness of unwise,
intrusive, and unworkable government (politician) policy.
