DUMBER THAN AN OX

If anyone with any sense wants to know why this nation is in trouble, there is no need to look anywhere else than the spewing of the Republican Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa. His lack of knowledge of the Constitution is overwhelming. He, by his own words, admits in a roundabout way he is ignorant of the constitutional limits on government.

Grassley told Newsmax, The healthcare reform proposal that forces people to buy health insurance could be unconstitutional — Could be? On what planet does the man live? But it gets worse. Here is some more of his dumbness and I do mean dumb. "I'm not a lawyer but I've listened to some lawyers speak on this. I don't think we've ever had this issue before of having to buy something, and a lot of constitutional lawyers are saying it is unconstitutional, or at least a violation of the Tenth Amendment." Mr. Grassley is a member of a body that must know the requirements of the Constitution and he just admitted that he doesn’t know. He doesn’t have to be a lawyer to understand the Constitution. Not only is the must buy requirement unconstitutional, the whole idea of government health care is unconstitutional.  Has he ever considered that fact? That makes the question of the forced buying moot since the whole idea is wrong and unconstitutional in the first place.

Do you think his lack of mental prowess can’t get any worse? Keep in mind he mentioned the 10th Amendment. He said in reference to it the following: "Maybe states can do this, but can the federal government do it? So I have my doubts. This mental midget has his doubts that the federal government can do it. Has this fool not read Article I, Section 8 which lists the limits on the powers of the federal government: the very same federal government of which he has been elected a member. The federal government cannot constitutionally do the health care bill because it isn’t one of their powers. Do we need to wonder why there are problems facing us that seem to never end and maybe will never end in our lifetime? With people like Grassley in Congress, it is no wonder that the Constitution is trashed daily by his fellow buffoons.

The oath that members of Congress take for their office is a promise to support the Constitution as it is written. They are duty bound to not only know the content, they must follow it to the letter, and if they don’t know the letter of it, they must learn it or end up like Grassley. Unfortunately, a majority knows no more about the document than Grassley and if they do, they ignore it at every opportunity. Based on their legislative behavior, the violations are both ignorance and deliberate.

However in regard to Grassley, his ignorance of the Constitution’s limits on his powers undoubtedly is deliberate. Why do the people of Iowa and any other states for that matter, continue to elect people who couldn’t pass an 8th grade test on the Constitution?  The reason mostly likely is that the voters don’t have any more knowledge of the Constitution than Grassley.

Being a member of Congress is one of the most demanding and important jobs in the world. Not to know any more of the requirements for his work than does Grassley, should make him a worthless employee working on behalf of the people.

How can we survive as a nation when we have hundreds of the Grassley types pontificating about that which many of them do not know?  The answer is that we can’t continue as a free people for very much longer. The Food For Thought has two parts. The first part is for the people to become educated concerning the Constitution. The second part is to send dumb ox Grassley and the rest of the dumb oxen home at the next election.

Note: Since this article was written, several more of senators have made ignorant statements about the Constitution, exhibiting their lack of knowledge about what they took an oath to defend and uphold. Why have these people been elected to office? Because the people in general are as ignorant of the Constitution as the politicians, for whom they vote. Our republic is falling due to the ignorance of the people who aren’t being taught in our schools the truth of the constitutional republic.
