Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, two comedians of years ago, inevitably would find themselves entangled in some ridiculous escapade of their own making. It always wasn’t possible to figure out which one created the problem, but Stan always assumed that Oliver was the culprit and would say, “Fine mess you got us in, Ollie.” He never took any responsibility for the mess though. Does that not sound a bit familiar to the present day?

It is easy to blame the nut job (aka Barack Hussein Obama) for the mess we are in today. To be sure, he is adding to the mess daily with his unconstitutional proclamations that are designed to give him more control. However, he is only following the Laurel and Hardy pattern of making a mess and then blaming it on everyone else, so he receives the first Ollie Award. But in reality, there are many Ollies who have contributed to the many messes stupidity has created.

One of the Ollies was the United States Supreme Court when Chief Justice Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes stated in a speech in 1907 that “we are under a Constitution, but the Constitution is what the judges say it is...” That opened the door for the Court to interpret the Constitution, not from what it says and means, but according to what the justices wanted it to mean. At that point, original meaning and intent went the way of the dodo bird.

Another Ollie was FDR who began The Depend on Government ideology, and in the same vein, of fostering dependency, LBJ and his Great Society ideas deserve an Ollie award. Look at the mess Medicare is making of the economy.

Jimmy Carter surely is deserving of an Ollie for his many blunders in both foreign and domestic policies. His dubious accomplishments are many and varied if they can be called accomplishments. The Community Investment Act was one of his less noble endeavors that ultimately led to the housing debacle. But when he asked his daughter to identify the world’s greatest problem and she said, “Nuclear proliferation, daddy,” he made Stan and Ollie look like geniuses.

Lying became an art with Richard Nixon, but he was caught which led to his resignation. However, for beginning the open and bald faced lying behavior, he is given an Ollie for the mess from which he couldn’t extract himself.

With the door open to public lying concerning escapades of those in the highest office of the land, Bill Clinton should be given several Ollies, but he will receive only one. He is the only sitting President to lose his license to practice law and therefore he gets the well deserved Ollie.

Associate Justice Harry Blackmun of Roe v Wade fame authored the decision that has caused the death of over 50 million unborn babies. He should be called the pro-death justice for his blatantly offensive assault on the defenseless. That ruling has made a mess of such proportions that the damage may never be undone. For that ruling he receives an Ollie.

The unions workers who refused the wage and benefits deal offered by Hostess to prevent closure of the bakeries are not only Ollies, they exemplify the stupid behavior of unions who cannot understand the realities of what is necessary for a company to maintain profitability. We will show them, we’ll shut them down and lose our jobs. Right, that will teach them not to mess with the unions. Hey, where is the worker’s unemployment benefits line? An Ollie award goes to all of you.      

And both political parties deserve to receive Ollies for not following the Constitution over the years. They do whatever appears to be politically expedient for the purpose of obtaining votes.

The final Ollie at this time goes to the many voters who voted for the nut job. They deserve the award because they are responsible for the mess he is making in the republic. Will they accept the blame? No they won’t, any more than the other Ollies will accept blame for their ill advised actions. With Laurel and Hardy innocence, they will say Bush made them do it.
