The mayor of a small town in Michigan infuriated the godless crowd,
which caused them to show their complete and total lack of sense to the
point of uttering stupidity. When one ignores God and thinks they know
something when they don’t, ignorance shows to the ninth degree. The
following sentence is proof. (Quote) "We
have a Godless constitution, and we have a secular government, and
we have public officials who have taken an oath of office to uphold that
secular constitution," says Annie Laurie Gaylor, president of the group.
"Using their office to promote their own personal beliefs, that is a
violation of the rights of conscience to the citizens of Hudsonville."
(Unquote) The lady is wrong on many counts, which will be discussed.
Earlier in the article, the following is found.
An activist group says Hudsonville is violating the separation of
church and state by having the phrase "strive to serve God" in the
city's mission statement. The group is as wrong as the lady quoted
in the above paragraph is wrong. Plainly, when people don’t believe in
God, they will go off the deep end into fantasy. Neither do they know
any history of the nation’s founding; belief in God was the bedrock of
the nation’s founding.

A friend had a saying about people who persisted in not learning. He
would say, “Buy them books, buy them books, and buy them more books and
all they do is eat the pages.” Apparently, the dissenters in Hudson have
eaten the pages, if they had any books at all. For the umpteenth time,
there is no separation of church and state in the Constitution. How
difficult is that to understand? Secondly, God and church are two
different entities. God existed long before the church, and people,
believe in him through faith that he does exist. The evidence is
everywhere, but the spiritually blind and ungodly blind refuse to see
his handiwork. Thirdly, nowhere in the Bible can it be found that God is
reduced to a religion. God is the great I am. He is and always shall be
as. Period. End of discussion.

Annie Laurie Gaylor says the Constitution is a secular document.
Ignorance does run deep in many people. The woman should explain the
meaning of the words in the Preamble to the Constitution which are [to]
secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity,
in reference to the Declaration of Independence, which says “We hold
these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal and are
endowed by their Creator with life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness.” God has bestowed the blessings of life on everyone, even
Annie Laurie Gaylor who is one of the members of the posterity declared
in the Preamble. Every provision in the Constitution has a biblical
basis for the principles of government the founders set forth. (See the
Survival of a Nation section.)

But the worst of her thinking is that she believes that the mention of
God, which she calls personal belief (it actually is) is a violation
of the rights of conscience to the citizens of Hudsonville. So,
since the mention of a personal belief in God violates the conscience of
the unbelievers, God can’t be mentioned according to her logic. Does she
not understand freedom of speech? Does she not understand that her
declaration of not wanting to hear God mentioned might violate the
conscience of those who believe in God and denies their right to speak
freely? Of course she doesn’t. Violation of the conscience is a one-way
street and those people have no feeling that they might be offending
others.

The mention of God doesn’t imply church or religion. It says that the
one speaking believes that God is the highest power and is worthy of
praise. That is the truth on which this nation was founded. In Sorting
It Out, the mayor of that town is to be commended for the stand and the
unbelievers need to quit eating the pages of their books. The ink smears
on their faces aren’t very becoming.
