A deadly belief is the idea that the State (federal government) can
provide for all things in every section of life, and solve every problem
that comes our way. A once independent people are edging ever closer to
slavery at the hands of the all-powerful federal state. Such didn’t
occur overnight; it has been coming ever since the idea of socialism
invaded with election of Woodrow Wilson in 1913. The Sixteenth and
Seventeen Amendments gave impetus to the ideology by allowing the
government access to our wallets and the removal of the voices of the
individual states, which could no longer appoint their senators. Control
of government by the people was effectively removed by the two
amendments, giving it to the Statists.

Following is a quote by a man who was revered and almost deified by the
populace. He said, “The State embraces everything, and nothing has value
outside of the State. The State creates right.” Do you know who spoke
those words? The identity may surprise you but maybe not. It was
Franklin Delano Roosevelt. (Theonomy in Christian Ethics, 3rd
Ed. [1977] 2002) pp. 12-13 Greg L. Bahnsen, Nacogdoches, TX: Covenant
Media Press.) That quote is from a man who pushed us ever closer to the
supremacy of the State, which is the foundation for the mindset of a
major portion of the citizenry.

One of the more troubling aspects of the notion is that even those who
supposedly claim to be Christians and conservatives support many
programs that take money from the worker’s pockets and give it to those
who the government (politicians) declares to be needy. One of the most
galling aspects of the thievery by the government is the use of
scriptures by politicians and their sycophants to make people believe
that God said that government should redistribute wealth.

Callers to talk shows and comments in blogs reveal how widespread the
pernicious belief has become. One blogger said her understanding was
that government was to provide things for the needy. Callers to talk
shows accuse conservatives of trying to stop the nut job (a.k.a Barack
Hussein Obama) from his quest to help the poor. When an explanation is
attempted, they often cry racist rather than face the truth. If not
that, then it is the rich, (whomsoever they might be) who are taking all
the riches and only giving crumbs to the economically deprived. The
legacy of FDR and the promotion of the state live on and its menace to
our republic is growing.

We are now engaging in the type excesses of government that lead to
ruin. Deficit spending, confiscatory tax rates, immorality in and out of
government and growing dependence on government in all areas of life are
taking their toll on the vitality of our republic. Avarice and greed are
the norm of the day. But it isn’t those who work each day who are
engaging in avarice and greed; it is welfare dependent crowd and the
politicians who are the guilty ones.
