MORAL MELT DOWN

At the risk of being accused of crying the sky is falling, this article is going to address that very thing happening in our nation today. Unfortunately, there are those who refuse to see the damage being done to our society by the lack of adhering to the moral and ethical standards which have served the nation and has allowed it to grow in greatness. From those in public positions of leadership and authority, to the churches of the nation, an appalling lack of desire to follow the path of right and wrong is seen daily. In the politically charged climate of political correctness there isn’t given much thought to individuals taking responsibility for their own conduct. All types of excuses are offered up to explain the unwanted behavior. And in fact, that conduct which was once unwanted is now said to be normal.

Let’s begin with those elected and appointed to public office. Investigations of all types on both the national, state, and local levels are being conducted involving congressmen, state legislators, governors, school board members, and their associates. Considering that those elected were put in office by the voters, what does that say for the voter and his or her allegiance to right and wrong, given that many even after being proven guilty of wrong doing are returned to office. Partisan and political advantage is deemed to be more important than honesty and integrity.

The news media must be pointed out as well for their complicit role. When a member of a particular party is involved, depending on which party the accused miscreant is a member thereof, it either gets a big splash nationwide or isn’t mentioned at all. And along with the non-reporting, the news is exceeding guilty of making up stories to suit political agendas.

Young people are engaging in all types of behavior that ranges from plotting and planning to kill teachers and fellow students, to people in the general public. Those who should no better rise up and offer excuses for the deadly behavior. The word responsibility is foreign to our society and its use is frowned upon since it is never the fault of the individual. Society is to blame for criminal conduct of all kinds.

Hardly a day goes by that there isn’t news about a teacher and a student engaging in sexual activity. Male teachers preying on young girls and women teachers seducing young males seems to be common. One individual (whose name I can’t recall at the moment) said he thought such liaisons should be allowed since it is beneficial for human relations. What was once a taboo is now viewed as normal and healthy. Beneficial, normal, and healthy for whom? Certainly not for the vulnerable victims who are the targets of the depravity.

Sexual predators are prowling the streets, playgrounds, churches, and other places to find victims for their deviant ways. NAMBLA openly crusades for normalizing sex acts between adults and children. When a predator is caught, attorneys rush in to defend the violator with motions to dismiss the case, and if it goes to trial, then tries to convince a sympathetic judge or gullible jury into rendering a not guilty verdict. Such a verdict will bring the lawyer more clients and fatten his bank account which seems more important than protecting society. The Bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil and finding known predators not guilty, when there is no doubt to his or her guilt, is evil.

Right has become wrong, wrong has become right, and excuses for behavior have taken the place of demanding responsibility from those who commit their destructive acts against individuals and society in general. In Sorting It Out, the nations that want to destroy us don’t need to use a nuclear device. Our burgeoning moral melt down is paving the way of our eventual destruction for them.
