MORALITY IGNORED

Bradley Gitz, a political science professor at Lyons College in Batesville, Arkansas, writes a weekly column the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and in his column on May 13, 2013, he wrote that he was among the libertarians who are on record from way back supporting gay marriage. In the last paragraph he wrote, “Gay marriage is and should be inevitable,” … but he has reservations about sexual preference since such is on a shakier basis.

In order to support homosexual marriage, one has to ignore God and the moral laws he has given to all humans. If one moral law is ignored, what determines where the refusal to follow morality stops? The answer may not be pleasing to a large number of people, but it is there nothing that will stop the plunge into more immorality when God is ignored.

Gay marriage is a farce, invented by the immoral trying to make sin accepted and normal. The scriptures make it plain that God does not approve, has never approved of it and will not approve of it, no matter how much humans demand that it be recognized. The word marriage appears twice in the Old Testament (KJV) and both instances refer to a man and a woman being married. In the New Testament, the word appears 17 times in 16 verses (KJV) and refers one, to men and women being married and two, the relationship of believers to Christ. In both cases of use, the teaching is that two will become one (Genesis 2:24) and Matthew 19:4-6. Jesus made it very clear the Pharisee in verses 4-6, that he [God] which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5  And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. Nothing could be any plainer that it is man and woman who are married; not man to man or woman to woman no matter how fervently such is promoted or stated that Jesus didn’t address homosexuality or such marriages.

But another quotient must enter the picture at this point. Paul wrote to the Corinthians concerning the natural man. He said that an unregenerate man cannot receive the things of God. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (I Corinthians 2:14)  The only way that anyone can change for the good is to hear the gospel and become obedient to God’s way instead of the way of sin.  No one should be astonished that politicians, their followers and political parties pander to sinful practices. They are spiritually discerned. The word means they have not examined the issue from God’s point of view; and since the verb is passive, they have allowed other than God to determine what they believe and follow. Man rather than God has determined that homosexual marriage should be allowed and that is what happens on any subject of sin when man attempts to overrule God.

One of the favorite arguments of the homosexual marriage supporting crowd is that Jesus didn’t say anything against such arrangements. But he did in Matthew 19:4-6 as noted above. He eliminated homosexual liaisons by quoting God’s plan for men and women. Paul also wrote of marriage in I Corinthians 7. 25-40. He certainly wasn’t addressing same sex marriage.

The first part of the last paragraph of the Gitz column says it all for the spiritually discerned. “Gay marriage is and should be inevitable.” The question is who says that should be so? Certainly not God; it is sinful unregenerate men and women who in their arrogance, are trying to play God. When God’s moral way is ignored, sinful behavior of all kinds follows.
