"
REMEMBER THE OLD BIKE?"
In 1817 Baron Von Drais invented
The bike called the walking machine,
Now of all things to me this sure
Turned out to be something keen!
It helped Von get around the Royal
Gardens with fun and much faster,
The front wheel used to steer and
Kept Von wanting to be the master.
The bike was made of wood which
Made the whittling quite a task,
When someone would see the bike
They had questions to be asked.
This machine in the old days was
Called the "hobby horse" you see,
As it was ridden only in the garden
Paths of dirt and made one feel free.
The bike then had metal tires
And metal pedals for breakers,
I can well imagine how this would cause
A lot of riders to become bone shakers!
I'm glad they put on rubber tires and
Comfort of seating to make you like,
The story of the peddlers, as we ask:
"REMEMBER THE OLD
BIKE?"
