Rodney King is dead, but in the minds of his followers he lives
on, continuing to bedevil society. He is dubiously famous for
causing mayhem and chaos resulting from his arrest for public
misdeeds and fighting the police officers who were trying to
arrest him. All the uproar was on the police officers with not
much mention of King’s conduct at all. After riots and death
occurred, King said, "Can't we all just get along?" A study of
King’s behavior reveals he did not want to get along with
anyone. His idea was that others must get along with him, no
matter what he did.
Now, the mind set has infected millions of people who refuse to
stand and be counted in defense of morality. (Sometimes the laws
are designed deal with those who do not want to get along with
the evils of the day.) The mind set infects persons of every age
and stripe. Hillary Clinton said concerning abortion, “…
I think it’s essential that as Americans we look for that common
ground that we can all stand upon. [Our] core beliefs and
values. can guide us in reaching our goal of keeping abortion
safe, legal and rare into the next century.” (Source:
Remarks at NARAL, Washington, DC Jan 22, 1999) Of
course, common ground as long as it is her ground on which we
can agree. Then we can get along, can’t we. But she and others
like her never consider the safety of the unborn, do they. No,
because if they did, abortion would no longer be legal and would
disappear quickly.
God has been removed from many areas of our life, principally
the public arenas. Those supposedly in charge bow to the
demands of the God haters just to get along and not cause
trouble. What they mean is “We don’t want to oppose the haters
because it will cause us trouble.” The get along mind has
advanced to the point that
God was taken from a first grade child’s poem. It was done
to prevent upsetting those who might not like hearing God
referenced during the public reading of the poem in a school
assembly. If God is mentioned we just can’t get along, don’t you
see? Yes, in the name of getting along we will remove God.
Efforts to remove God are ages old. The serpent tried to remove
God from the minds of Adam and Eve and by doing so, everyone
could get along since God was hampering their life. Just do it
his way and all will be swell was the implication of the
serpent’s words. We know how that turned out.
When Jesus was on the earth, he made certain Jews of that day
mad because he would not get along with their unholy notions and
teachings, so they accused him of using the power of devil.
And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath
Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out
devils. 23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in
parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? (Mark 3:22-23)
Jesus wouldn’t get along so they conspired to kill him.
And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill
him; for they feared the people. (Luke 22:2) The fear of
the people kept them from killing him at that time. So in a
sense, they tried to get along to protect themselves.
Getting along is endangering the United States and has made for
dire consequences through the years. Ronald Reagan tried to get
along with Democrats on tax and spending reform and they reneged
on the promise to cut spending if taxes were raised. In short,
they lied. George H.W. Bush suffered the same fate in an effort
to get along. He said, “Read my lips, no new taxes.” Then he
backed down and the Democrats stuffed him by electing “I didn’t
have …” William Jefferson Clinton instead.
Now the nut job is pressuring the Republicans to get along by
agreeing to raise taxes on the wealthy. But he and the Democrats
refuse to cut any spending which says they don’t intend to get
along unless things are done their way. Getting along with them
is their way or no way. They will fight until they have their
way and if they don’t, then they will continue to create trouble
just as the Pharisees did when Jesus was on earth.
The Rodney King mind set, as stated in the beginning, has
invaded the minds of millions in our society and it must be
stopped. It can be stopped by principled people taking a stand
and saying, “No, we refuse to get along for the sake of getting
along. We will not violate our godly beliefs and biblical
principles for you.” Until that or something similar is said and
done, Rodney King’s mind set legacy will continue to lead our
republic and its people to a point of no return.
