Two letters to Voices published on April 1, 2009, couldn’t be more
opposed to understanding the nature of government actions if the writers
had been told to write opposing views. The letter from the writer in
Batesville, Arkansas, wanted some answers to some questions and it shows
that she understands the “extra” money in the paycheck isn’t a tax
reduction. It is only a change in the tax withholding tables to make
people think they are getting a tax cut. She correctly states that taxes
will be owed at the end of the year because of the reduction in the
withholding. This is more deceit and deception on the part of the nut
job in the White House. “We will give it to you now and hammer you later
to get it back.”

The first writer made some salient points about welfare recipients being
paid for doing nothing and the fact that those who pay no taxes will be
receiving a tax refund. She correctly questions how those who pay no
taxes can receive a refund. The answer is that the scheme is spreading
the wealth around in action that the nut job announced to Joe the
plumber.

The other writer who lives in Little Rock decried the use of tax money
to build weapons to protect the nation. She cited a study by the
University of Massachusetts which “shows that spending on things like
health care, education, mass transit, construction and home
weatherization creates far more jobs than spending money on the
military.” She even believes that global warming and the financial mess
can be solved by “creating jobs in another way.” The problem with her
thinking is that all of it is false. Government cannot create jobs to
improve the economy; that is the job of the private sector. Government
jobs are time limited when compared to the jobs created by private
enterprise. Government jobs create no material goods and the long
lasting services therefore become a drain on private resources since it
takes taxes to keep the jobs and services going. Not to belabor the
points that global warming and windmill blades are a joke.

If she cares to notice, the items she listed are what have gotten us
into this mess in the first place. The politicians in Congress have
stepped on the Constitution and intruded on us for so long with the
programs espoused by the writer, they have no idea that what they do is
unconstitutional. Any jobs that Congress creates always come at the
expense of the private sector which pays the cost through taxation for
all the government boondoggles. Every dollar the government takes to
create jobs is a dollar that private enterprise cannot use to create
long lasting employment, and which will increase economic prosperity for
all who want to work. Notice the words, for all who want to work. As
Paul said in his letter II Thessalonians 3:10: For even when we
were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work,
neither should he eat. Literally translated it means that those
who won’t work should not expect to eat or benefit from the labors of
others. But under the philosophy of the big government and socialist
mind, those who have resources must provide for those who won’t provide
for themselves.

Her letter shows that she doesn’t understand the Constitution. There is
nothing in it that gives the government any authority or power to do as
she suggested. She should read and learn the meaning of Article 1,
Section 8 of the Constitution that limits government to specific duties
and powers. One of the duties of Congress is to provide for the common
defense, as stated in Clause One, Section 8. The companion clauses are
10 through 16 which are part of the common defense. Yes, tax money pays
for the military, but that is proper since the defense of the states
(nation) is called for in the Constitution.
|
|
Due to a very poor understanding of the nature of our constitutional
republic, one writer complained that the government isn’t doing enough
and the other writer recognizes the fallacy of the socialist give away.
May the latter grow in great numbers daily!
