SOME LIVE, SOME DIE

Sarah Palin said that death panels were part of the nut job health care law. The left cried foul and pronounced Mrs. Palin a right wing moon bat. They couldn’t find enough vile words to express the venom they expelled in her direction. How terrible to suggest that anyone connected with the law would want anyone to die, much less make a pronouncement that would deny them treatment needed for them to live. How dare she impugn their integrity with such a scurrilous statement?

In spite of the left’s fuming, what goes around comes around and it came around in the person of Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services. A 10 year old girl needs a lung transplant and Sebelius denied the request for the child to be granted an exception since her situation was so dire. Sebelius who called the transplant decision "incredibly agonizing" says medical experts should make those decisions. Yet, she is not a medical expert of any kind and she made the decision in spite of the transplant doctors stating that the child was medically eligible for an adult lung. Then she said that the policy needed reviewing for possible changes. Everyone needs to be treated fairly since it is all about fairness. There just cannot be a chance that someone would be treated unfairly by the government being compassionate.

However, the story has a deeper component which is Sebelius herself. When she was the governor of Kansas, she did everything possible to protect the now dead George Tiller, the notorious abortionist who contributed big bucks to Sebelius. In her position at the head of Health and Human Services, she has supported abortion with no hesitation. Death is the service she gives to those over whom she has the power to decide their fate.

But there is more. It involves what she believes. She is a big government type that believes that government employees are better qualified to make life and death decisions. Given her behavior in all matters, she places the state above the well being of the citizens. A socialistic state is not about protecting lives; it is about following the laws/rules set forth by those who are in a position to do so. Sebelius could not grant an exception since the rules of the mighty state are more important than the life of a mere child. The state is supreme and she intends to keep it that way. Rules must be followed because the power of the state cannot be questioned.

There isn’t any room for compassion in the world of Sebelius and her types. Compassion would require that socialist state rulers set aside stupid laws in order to protect the life of the 10 year old girl from stupid laws. To do so would be an admission that the state isn’t always correct in such matters and many others. Yet, more than a few people believe she was right since she was just following the rules. That is what the thugs in Nazi Germany said in their own defense too.

A judge overturned the Sebelius decision and that sends an ominous message also. Sebelius, judges and the government in general, should not be making life and death decisions except for lawful criminal death penalties. But for the judge, the decision Sebelius made would have been the death warrant for the child. Reasonable judges are the only people between us and the over powering dictates of the socialist state. If the powers that be now, or if the nut job or some other big government nit wit ever gains full control without the checks and balances to keep them under control, the trip to tyranny will be complete. The Sebelius types will be the norm instead of a scab on the republic as she is now.

Sebelius hides her hideous behavior behind the laws of the state where she has cover for her deeds. Without stretching it, her behavior suggests that she likes the power to decide who lives and who dies. Given her support for abortion and the denial of the transplant, that is a reasonable conclusion. She is right. Some live and some die and she intends to keep making the choice as a death panel of one. There is no other way to describe her position and reprehensible attitude.
