TALKING POINT BALOONY |

Three letters to Voice in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette had the theme of voter suppression that will occur if voters are required to have a photo voter-ID. Disenfranchise and discriminatory were used to describe the “horrible requirement.” One writer spoke of voter fraud and said that the real fraud was requiring photo ID. The writer said that the requirement places a hardship on those who do not own cars; the elderly the working poor and the elderly have to use mass transit. That is the usual dogma that the proponents of the woe unto them crowd uses and that dog of an excuse won’t hunt. The group identified by the writer somehow manages to buy groceries, go to the doctor, visit government offices, vote and do other things, but they cannot make one trip to a local license office for a photo ID by using the means they use to engage in their other activities. That is right, they can’t. It is such a once in a lifetime burden when all the other trips are taken much more frequently. Then the writer said that the real purpose of the ID was to control who could and could not vote. Now that dog will hunt either because that is the purpose of the photo ID. It is to stop those from voting who do not have the right to vote. But no matter, there is no real voter fraud said the writer. It appears the writer is living on another planet where all those voting are legal and honest and don’t need an ID. Oh, and the names the nut job is called must cease forthwith since it is racism. Never mind the names the leftist ilk call their opponents. No, we won’t mention that behavior. Another letter mentioned the constitutional right to vote and alluded to an ID as disenfranchising thousands of Arkansans. The writer needs to study the Constitution. Article XV is the Equal Rights Amendment for White and Colored Citizens. Section I follows The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. Section II The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. Then Amendment XIX The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was to enforce the Fifteenth Amendment. Notice what isn’t written in the two amendments; there isn’t any provision nullifying voter-ID or photo-ID. It is left to the states to set requirements for the exercise of voting rights of who can vote as long as those requirements do not conflict with the United States Constitution and the Voting Rights Law. Apparently the letter writer hasn’t heard of the Ninth and Tenth Amendments which allows the states to set the requirements. The third writer took issue with Romney’s 47 percent statement by criticizing a congressman for using a quote by Alexis de Tocqueville “The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.” And another quote A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.” Alexis de Tocqueville words of truth are coming to fruition daily in front of our eyes. The government is advising people how and where to sign up for food stamps and many other government services. Food stamp use has risen to 46 million plus, the highest in the history of the program. In the letter of Paul II Thessalonians 3:10 he wrote to those people, For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. Literally, they should not expect to eat the fruit of another’s labor. Eating the fruit of another’s labor is being promoted by the government and the people believe they are entitled to it. And the writer made fun of the congressman quoting Alexis de Tocqueville who was smarter than any liberal that can be named. Not only are the writers of the letters confused about the type of government we have, others are just as confused when they write of a democracy instead of a democratic republic governed by a constitution and laws made in conformance with that constitution. They think that voting requirements are a danger to the democracy and are only there to inhibit voting. Not to inhibit those who are not eligible to vote is a danger to the republic. Can not those who cry and whine about voter-ID and photo-ID see the danger? Of course not, they are liberal Democrats who have no rules except those that fit their agenda. And those who are fighting the voting requirements are guess who? Is an answer needed? But in case it is, the answer is-shhhh-Democrats. 09-22-2012 DEC The word in the title is not a typo. Since this was written, a very interesting event took place in Pennsylvania. An elderly woman, who claimed she couldn’t obtain a voter ID, lost her case and … Read the article to see what happened after the law was struck down. It would seem that the judge also had egg on his face. |
