THE AFTER LIGHT OF ELECTION DAY

Do we Christian, Republican, Conservatives really want John McCain to be the next president, the champion of the Straight Talk Express? I for one do not care to subject the nation to a man who uses double speak and double talk, in a way that does Waffling Slick Willie Clinton proud. Remember that McCain was a member of the Gang of Fourteen, that group that took it upon themselves to decide the fate of Bush appointees designated to fill the various federal court vacancies. Their sole purpose was to thwart the installation of jurists who would uphold the principles of limited government; those who would honor the Constitution’s original intent.

John McCain, in throwing in with the vipers on the liberal Democrat side, exposed himself to be a dealer to gain popularity with the left. Of course, he’ll deny that’s the case since he dares not give foundation to his tendency to rebel against conservative ideas when he thinks it expedient to do so. Yet, his membership in the Gang gives lie to his staunchly stated declaration that he is a conservative.

However, McCain’s duplicity is even worse now that the election is over. He is on record with the following from an article in World Net Daily. The reporter made comment and then the wonderfully enlightened words of the Senator follows in the quote: Whatever the shift of power, or lack thereof, Sen. John McCain said Republicans were looking to return to their base. "Less government, lower taxes, be more careful stewards, stop this profligate spending," he said would be the goals. "We've got to get back to our conservative folks."  In what la la land has McCain been residing during the years he has spent in the Senate? Has he now had a revelation from an election club up to the side of his head?

But McCain left out one important ingredient in his insightful moment of enlightenment in The After Light of Election Day. He left out the need for government (politicians) to lead the nation morally. To many politicians, the word morals isn’t politically correct since it inevitably and undeniably leads to God and his ways of doing things honestly, ethically, and of course, morally. When politicians refuse to mention God; refuse to speak of his ways; refuse to honor that which has made this nation great; then how can anyone lead the nation in the path set forth by the founders?

For those who deny that religion should be a part of government, (even many Christians so deny) Romans 13 succinctly and clearly sets forth the purpose of government. Paul wrote: 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. 5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. It is incumbent for those in power to ensure that government follows the biblical pattern for governing. It is the height of absurdity to believe that an ungodly man can effectively serve the people as an elected or appointed official. The sole purpose of government is to ensure the safety, freedom, and liberty of its citizens, all of which translate into a society of individuals looking after their own personal well being instead of depending on government.

Senator McCain would do well to remember that the conservative base rests on moral principles, first and foremost, and the items he mentions are part of those moral beliefs. In Sorting It Out, until he recognizes the importance of morals for the conservatives, his sudden transformation due to seeing the light after Election Day is as phony as the Gang of Fourteen.
